چکیده
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of ultrasound-guided intratumoral indigo carmine injections for intraoperative localization of small head and neck tumors and to introduce our surgeon-performed technique. METHODS In total, 23 patients who had tumors ≤1.5 cm that were not palpable by 2 head and neck surgeons were enrolled in this prospective study. RESULTS Ultrasound-guided intratumoral indigo carmine injections successfully targeted tumors in 22 patients (95.7%). The mean preinjection target tumor size was 0.8 cm. After an average injection of 0.7 mL indigo carmine, the mean target tumor size increased to 1.0 cm, which enhanced visual demarcation because of the increased tumor size. In these patients, we successfully and uneventfully resected the target tumors with ultrasound-guided intratumoral indigo carmine injection assistance. CONCLUSION Ultrasound-guided intratumoral indigo carmine injections were technically feasible as an intraoperative procedure and were performed safely by a head and neck surgeon to facilitate localization of small head and neck tumors, even in revision cases.

متن کاملMinimizing complications during retropubic radical prostatectomy - is ureteral stenting necessary?
OBJECTIVES AND AIMS To avoid damage to the ureters during bladder neck preparation in radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, it may be helpful to insert ureteral stents temporarily or to intravenously administer indigo carmine dye for enhanced visualisation of ureteric orifices. We evaluated our bladder neck preserving technique at radical prostatectomy with regard to ureteric injuries. P...
متن کاملCryo-Assisted Resection En Bloc, and Cryoablation In Situ, of Primary Breast Cancer Coupled With Intraoperative Ultrasound-Guided Tracer Injection: A Preliminary Clinical Study
The aim of the study was to perform cryosurgery on a primary breast tumor, coupled with simultaneous peritumoral and intratumoral tracer injection of a blue dye, to evaluate lymphatic mapping. We explored the ability of our strategy to prevent tumor cells, but not that of injected tracers, to migrate to the lymphovascular drainage during conventional resection of frozen breast malignancies. Sev...
متن کاملMarking non-palpable breast masses with injected methylene blue dye, an easy, safe and low cost method for developing countries and resource-limited areas.
INTRODUCTION The widespread use of improved mammographic techniques has led to increased detection of nonpalpable breast masses. Preoperative localization is important for reducing false negative results and decreasing the size of tissue resection needed and the resulting breast deformity. We used ultrasound guided methylen blue injection in the mass for localization of breast masses that were ...
متن کاملVATS intraoperative tattooing to facilitate solitary pulmonary nodule resection
INTRODUCTION Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has become routine and widely accepted for the removal of solitary pulmonary nodules of unknown etiology. Thoracosopic techniques continue to evolve with better instruments, robotic applications, and increased patient acceptance and awareness. Several techniques have been described to localize peripheral pulmonary nodules, including pre-operat...
